Carbajal Statement on ICE Detainment Involving Santa Maria High School Student

U.S. Representative Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24) released the statement below following reports of ICE tackling and injuring a U.S. citizen student from Santa Maria High School.

“I'm deeply disturbed and outraged to learn of yet another ICE detainment in Santa Maria — this time, ICE agents violently detained a student with disabilities while they were walking to school. The student is a U.S. citizen and sustained injuries severe enough that they needed surgery. This is outrageous and we should not tolerate these tactics. Our schools must remain safe places for students and families, free from fear, intimidation, and racial profiling.”
